This rocker came to me in a fairly significant state of disrepair. Almost everything was loose, including the seat frame. Typical of disassembly for me, every joint gets labeled so it can be reassembled to exactly match its original position. After disassembly the parts were taken to my finisher for a custom strip of the finish. The flowers on the crossmember of the back were originally gilded on and would not survive the chemicals involved in the stripping process. We decided to leave the flowers/face alone, and to hand strip its back. After reassembly in my shop the rocker was again returned to the finisher for stain and finish. This second finishing phase tied together the colors so the original crossmember would harmonize with the new leather seat. After finishing was completed I cut the seat to fit, laid out a nailing pattern, and installed the seat. The owner of the chair was much more than surprised when she arrived to reclaim her rocker. She was thrilled!
