Small things also arrive in my shop for repairs.

This one-of-a-kind ebony rickshaw, from Shanghai, predates WWII. It is 9 inches long and 5 inches tall.

The entire carving comes apart: the umbrella is removable, as are the fenders, the wheels, the man pulling the rickshaw, and the lady riding inside.

It had some minor damage, enough to make it unfit for display. The axle for one wheel was broken and the fender over the wheel was not in place. I made a new axle as well as Ebony pins that allowed the fender to be installed and removed at will. There were a few other smallish things that needed attention, too.

The piece is now on display in the owner’s home instead of being relegated to a shoebox in a closet.
