| This project came to me as a commission. The watch is an Elgin that still works. It has been handed down through four generations of a family to its present owner. I was asked to develop some sort of case for it. This project is a good example of how materials and methodology merge...after they brew awhile. | Home HANDY LINKS All Projects On One Page About Me Business Card For You Email Me PROJECT INDEX...A-to-Z Albatross Altar Amboyna Turning Angels Ash Sphere Beds For My Boys Big Woody Bookcase Brass Balls Church Windows Dovetail Box Gold Dolphins Grandfather Clock Hope Chest Hope Chest Testimonial Jewelry Store Jewelry Store Testimonial Lacewood Bowl Lacewood Desk Mendocino Vessel Pipe Smoker's Table Plant Stand Pocket Watch Case Predator Rickshaw Rocking Chair Rocking Chair Frame Rolltop Desk Spalted Vase Stagecoach Chest Stopper & Vessel Telephone Stand Telephone Table Violin Case Walnut Vase X-ray Devices Ron Renner Geppetto's Woodworks Vancouver, Washington 360-606-2949 Website by ~ Neal Lubow |

| ABOVE---The watch on a slab of gunstock walnut from my lumber archive. This is the wood I chose for the making of the case. As you scroll down the progress photos, notice the grain direction and figuring (pattern) in the wood. Wood choice, grain matching, and pattern are part of what makes each project unique. | ||||||||

| ABOVE---This is my end product...almost. The two black cribbage pegs are what I was considering as devices to secure the lid, but after I let it ”cook” some I changed my mind. | ||||||||

| ABOVE---The case internals and the sliding dovetails. You can notice the brass pins (sticking up) that became my closure solution. In the photo below they are dropped down into the dovetailed case covers. | ||||||||

| ABOVE---I decided to use brass pins into which I machined a small groove that would serve as a fingernail pull element. I recessed the pins into the wood so the top of the case would be smooth, with no “catches.” | ||||||||
