| This piece might have been one of the first items I built for Neal. He's my web designer, a detail-oriented guy, particular to a point, and a friend. We have shared ideas and concepts for 20 years along with coffees and breakfasts and LOTS of notes on napkins. When sitting across the table and writing so I can easily read it, Neal writes upside down (right side up for me) about as fast as most people can normally write. The bookcase came as a question...and as per Neal...a little bit different. He wanted a bookcase that kept things UPRIGHT in the case. He wanted dividers that were adjustable left and right, accommodating the tallest of his titles. I guess it took all of 10 minutes to generate on a paper napkin what you see. The main case is Maple faced with Lacewood. The rods are stainless steel. I drilled upper and lower holes to allow the rods to be removed easily by lifting and tilting. The upper sets of holes are offset from those holes of the lower opening. The holes do not drill completely through the center plate/shelf. I cut out a crescent from each Lacewood divider face so the stainless rod could be easily grasped. A corresponding set of holes at the back of the case fits to a milled vertical slot in each divider. Neal's specifications for the case were 28 inches high x 24 inches wide and 12 inches deep. We have traded elements of our respective expertise many times over the years. In addition to this website and many other marketing pieces, he designed my logo and business cards on reclaimed, hand-selected, micro-veneered Birdseye Maple, then had the cards foil-stamped in a gold-toned bronze by his craftsman trade source. The cards are showstoppers and keepers when handed to a prospective client. |
