Maple stopper in a vessel of Spalted Maple.

The piece was turned on the lathe solely to demonstrate a rather close tolerance and snug fit of the stopper into the vessel. I drilled a 3-inch recess in the solid vessel. When the stopper is lifted just short of clearing the top of the vessel, and then released, it takes several seconds before the bottom of the stopper (a 3-inch cylinder unseen in this photo) reaches the bottom of the vessel. As shown, 10-1/2 inches tall from bottom of vessel to stop of stopper, 5 inches across at the vessel's widest.
